Vivid Studio Insider for February 1, 2002PT on a Cruise
Paul Thomas has been cruising around the country's airwaves, appearing on radio stations talking about Vivid's sweep of the AVN Awards. PT was, of course, named best director in film and best actor in a non-sex role for his work on Fade to Black. Feedback from the stations has been terrific and he's already been asked back for more on-air conversations because everyone seems to want to know what it's like to direct adult films, and who better to tell them than our tall, mysterious Mr. T.
Quality Pays Off
Vivid Entertainment Group has always put its emphasis on high quality production values, the best stars, the most exciting stories -- and it always pays off. Our Vivid Interactive division reported a record $2.4 million in DVD sales for the month of January. Interactive boss David James says the upsurge in sales is due to a combination of factors, including the introduction of new series and the recent decision to focus on more high-end product. Mr. James calls his program a "commitment to consumer satisfaction." It's obviously working.
Playboy is Vivid in March
The March issue of Playboy has a big feature on "The Women of Porn: They're Beautiful and They Do It All." Of course, Vivid plays a starring role in the issue. On the cover are vivid Girls Dasha and Kira Kener -- and inside you'll find them again along with Taylor Hayes, Janine and Jenna Jameson. Taylor tells Playboy she "likes sex with an adrenalin rush" and porn gave her the chance to fulfill a longtime dream of having sex with other girls.
Vivid on Fox
You may have seen the big feature on Fox Magazine last week about the adult conventions in Las Vegas. Vivid's p.r. guy T. J. DiReda was interviewed extensively for the show, as was Jenna Jameson. Fox reports that the program received exceptionally good viewer response. Small wonder. If you missed it, check your local listings for repeats..
So, Jenna Really Is a Doll
The best-attended news conference in Hollywood this week was at the Hustler story where Jenna Jameson introduced the new "Jenna Doll" -- the world's first "adult action figure." If is, of course, modeled after Vivid Girl Jenna Jameson. Jenna's company, ClubJenna, Inc., formed a licensing deal with Jerry Macaluso of Plastic Fantasy, Inc. to create the seven-inch tall doll that is anatomically correct in every tiny detail and even comes with it ts own stripper pole. Jenna was interviewed by dozens of reporters from local L.A. media and from as far away as Germany and Britain (the BBC sent a crew). Plastic Fantasy says more than half of the limited edition of 10,000 units had been sold and Jenna has already posed for a body scan for the second action figure in a series a Talking Jenna Doll. Said one of the KTLA newspeople, "I'm going to give this to my husband for Valentine's day.")
